Counselling is a talking therapy that can help individuals make better sense of what's happening in their lives. It's a journey (short or long) where the counsellor accompanies the client through difficult thoughts and emotions, to help them arrive at a more comfortable and empowered place in their life.
Many individuals can experience symptoms and behaviours associated with painful and traumatic circumstances. Anxiety, fear, and hopelessness are a few emotions that can linger long after traumatic events. I will help you make sense of these symptoms and behaviours and then find a way forward to a more fulfilling life.
Depression, fear, and anxiety are some of the most common and uncomfortable emotions that we experience in our lives. Through counselling, I can help you work out what these feelings are trying to tell you, and then assist you in finding perspective and balance that you may seek in your life.
The picture here rings true with me if I think of the mind like a jigsaw puzzle. Pieces can get lost, misplaced, or you could end up with jigsaw pieces which don't form part of your main picture. To get the picture looking a little more as you'd like it, it sometimes gets a little messy. This is the process of healing, and working on a better picture - i.e. your own life and wellbeing.
Life is challenging. Sometimes even the nice things we celebrate can cause us to feel swamped and full of mixed feelings we would rather avoid. It's sometimes hard to talk to anyone about them. Even harder to talk to a stranger.
You’ve made a great start in looking at my website for help.
Whether you're looking to understand your thoughts and feelings, the dynamics of your relationships, or are just feeling stuck, I can help you explore your world and build new new understanding. Through our sessions, I will gently challenge and bring focus to the difficult areas of your life and help unravel any mysteries around your behaviour.
As a mother of a grown-up daughter, and someone who has been through my own emotional distress, I know about that critical voice in your head telling you to get a grip, get on with it, stop being stuck. Learning about myself through counselling has given me a different perspective and personal insight into how family and life traumas interconnect, and what part I played within these dynamics. I understand how I got to where I am now, and can look at the future with new awareness.
It’s not my place to judge you but to help you through your difficult time at your pace, not mine, to work alongside you and be a guide to where you want to be. And if you’re unsure what that is, that’s okay. Maybe you know how you might work best. You may want some direction, or to lead the way. I can share some ideas with you and we’ll work it out together. With regular reviews, we can agree on the way forward.
This is your therapy and your time. I will never tell you what to do, but I will help you find answers through the exploration of the problems you are facing.
Together, we can develop strategies and look at new and more positive ways to deal with difficulties.
